Cannock Chase Scouts are looking for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Expedition Assessors to support young people as they complete their Bronze, Silver, or Gold expeditions.
This is a rewarding volunteer role where you’ll help participants demonstrate teamwork, resilience, navigation skills, and self-reliance—often in some of the most beautiful countryside Staffordshire has to offer.
What does the role involve?
As a DofE Expedition Assessor, you will:
- Assess DofE expeditions in line with DofE requirements
- Observe teams during their qualifying expeditions (remotely and/or in the field)
- Review expedition aims, routes, and team performance
- Conduct final debriefs and complete assessment reports
- Support young people in having a safe, fair, and positive expedition experience
Who are we looking for?
You don’t need to be a Scout leader, just someone who:
- Enjoys the outdoors and working with young people
- Has experience in walking, camping, or expeditions (personal or professional)
- Can assess objectively and communicate clearly
- Is reliable and happy to volunteer occasionally, mainly during expedition seasons
DofE Assessor accreditation is ideal, but training and support can be provided for the right person.
